EU Students

EU students do not need a visa to study in Italy.
EU students do, however, need to apply for a residence permit by registering with the local police within three months of arrival.
Students apply to Italian universities via the Italian consulate in their home country. Cut-off dates vary but it is likely students will need to have their applications in between May and September for normal academic year programmes.

Extra-EU Students

Selected Extra-EU students selected for the Master Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, will receive a confirmation letter and, in order to complete the application procedure, they are invited to go through the following five steps (according to the Italian law for non-European citizens living abroad).

They need to:
1) Fill in the pre-enrollment application form (A form)
The A Form is available at http://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/moduli/Form_A.pdf To fill in the form, please consider that:

  1. The Academic Year you are applying for is: 2018/2019;
  2. The official name of the University is: University of L’Aquila;
  3. The program is an ordinary 2nd cycle degree course named: Telecommunications Engineering.

2) Prepare all the documents required by the Italian Embassy
Documents required by the Embassy:

  1. two copies of your pre-enrollment application form;
  2. two passport-sized photographs, one of which must be signed by you;
  3. the University degree certificate or educational qualification certificate which allows you to access to 2nd cycle degree programs. This must have already been legalized by the competent Authority of the country which issued it, with Apostille stamp, and officially translated into Italian;
  4. official certificate issued by the foreign academic Institution with the list of all the exams you passed and the corresponding grades, credits (if they are adopted) or weekly/yearly hours for all teaching-learning activities (theory and practice), syllabi of the individual subject courses. This official certificate may be provided in English, French, Spanish, or Italian. If not, it must be officially translated. Alternatively, if available, a “diploma supplement” may be provided.

Given that the program is taught in English, you do not need to provide any certificate proving your competence in Italian, neither to pass the Italian competence exam once in Italy. However, you need to provide a certificate proving your competence in English (unless your degree courses have been taught in English).
3) Deliver personally your application form + required documents to the competent diplomatic authority
The competent diplomatic authority is generally the Italian Embassy/Consulate closest to the place where the awarding institution is located. Deadline for this step varies across countries (typically end of May – end of June each year).
The Italian diplomatic authority will:

  1. legalize the Italian translation of the University degree and make it official;
  2. provide the Declaration of Value (DOV) of the University degree necessary for the final enrollment;
  3. authenticate one of the two photographs.

4) Once the pre-enrollment application step at the Embassy has been completed, write us an e-mail.
Then:
Once the Italian Embassy/Consulate notifies the International Relations Office of the University of L’Aquila about your pre-enrollment application, we will:

  1. confirm to the Italian Embassy/Consulate your admission to the program.
  2. send you a letter of acceptance that may be presented to the Embassy for your study visa

5) On your arrival in Italy, obtain formal admission to the program upon the presentation of the original required documents (Declaration of Value included).

Some important remarks:

  1. Do not be scared. It seems a long process, but many applicants successfully passed through it;
  2. Do not come to Italy without having presented the A Form to the Embassy: we will be forced by law to reject your final admission request, and you will need to come back to your country.
  3. Be careful: you can’t enroll if you don’t have 12 years of undergraduate schooling.
  4. In planning your activities, please consider the whole application procedure may take several months.

Do I need an health insurance in order to study in Italy?

Health Insurance is mandatory for international students  in Italy. You can purchase once in your country or apply for health insurance when you arrive in Italy for 50€.
